Um Hong-gil Human Foundation Plans Scholarships for Nepali Students to Study in South Korea
The Um Hong-gil Human Foundation is preparing a scholarship programme to support Nepali students seeking undergraduate education in South Korea, in collaboration with the Park Jae-beom Foundation and Sangji University.
Under the proposed programme, approximately 10 to 20 students are expected to receive scholarships of KRW 2 million per semester for four years. If the scholarship is provided for all eight semesters of a four-year undergraduate programme, each selected student could receive a total of KRW 16 million.
The programme will primarily target students who have graduated from, or are about to graduate from, Human Schools operated under the Um Hong-gil Human Foundation and who are interested in pursuing undergraduate studies at a university in South Korea.
If a sufficient number of qualified candidates cannot be identified from Human Schools, students from other educational institutions may also be considered, provided they are recommended by the Um Hong-gil Human Foundation.
Applicants seeking undergraduate admission in South Korea generally need to have completed Grade 12 or an equivalent level of secondary education. Academic requirements, minimum grades and other admission criteria vary depending on the university and programme.
Students may also need to demonstrate language proficiency, depending on their chosen course. Korean-taught programmes may require a Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) certificate, while English-taught programmes may require an IELTS or TOEFL score. Specific requirements depend on the university and its admission policies.
Prospective applicants should prepare their academic transcripts, certificates, valid passports and other documents required by the university. Depending on the programme, additional documents such as a statement of purpose, recommendation letters and language proficiency certificates may also be necessary.
Students admitted to South Korean universities must also complete the relevant procedures for obtaining a student visa. Undergraduate students generally apply for a D-2 student visa and may be required to submit admission documents, academic records, proof of financial capability and other documents specified by the relevant authorities.
The financial documentation required for a visa may vary depending on the university, the scholarship arrangement and applicable immigration requirements. Students should therefore verify the latest requirements before applying.
Details regarding the application deadline, eligibility criteria, application procedure, eligible academic programmes and official submission channel for the proposed scholarship programme have yet to be formally confirmed.
Interested students are encouraged to prepare their academic information, details of their schools and their interest in studying in South Korea, while awaiting further official information from the Um Hong-gil Human Foundation.
The proposed initiative is expected to provide an opportunity for Nepali students to pursue higher education in South Korea with financial support. Final selection will be subject to the programme’s official eligibility criteria and the admission requirements of the participating university.
