KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah informed the House of Representatives during a parliamentary session on Wednesday that financial assistance for citizens affected by floods in Rasuwa and other areas continues to grow steadily through government relief funds. Addressing the lower house of parliament, the prime minister highlighted that the Nepal government is actively collecting contributions through the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to provide essential support to impacted communities across the country.

According to the details provided by Prime Minister Shah during his address, a total amount of Rs 7,08,857,217 had been deposited into the government relief fund as of Wednesday. He explained that contributions have been flowing into the fund to aid ongoing disaster response efforts. To accelerate field-level assistance, the government released Rs 1 billion from the fund yesterday to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, which is responsible for coordinating nationwide disaster management activities.

From the total Rs 1 billion allocated to the authority, Rs 67.5 million has already been released and distributed to 15 flood-affected local levels. These local units are situated across five heavily impacted districts, namely Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Tanahun. The released financial support is being utilized to provide immediate relief and emergency assistance to victims suffering from the recent water-induced disasters in these locations.

Following the recent release of Rs 1 billion to the disaster risk management body, the relief fund retains a current available balance of Rs 6,08,857,217 in local currency. Furthermore, Prime Minister Shah shared that foreign currency contributions have also been received, with an additional amount of USD 6,141,702 currently deposited in the fund. The government continues to manage these financial resources to ensure effective relief distribution and support for disaster-hit populations.
