BANKE: Support is pouring in from several quarters in Banke district for people affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi flood.

In this connection, the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has pledged Rs 560,000 for search and rescue efforts, relief distribution and rehabilitation of the flood victims.

Newly elected Chamber President Chiranjivi Oli said the amount had been collected from the Chamber’s newly elected office-bearers and employees for flood victims in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.

It may be noted that a catastrophic flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district on August 26 caused a massive loss of life and widespread destruction of property in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and Gorkha.

President Oli said supporting disaster-affected people was an immediate responsibility. According to him, the collected amount would be deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Inmates of Naubasta Prison Extend Support

Meanwhile, 466 inmates at Naubasta Prison in Banke have contributed Rs 49,510 to the relief fund.
The inmates of the prison’s Block B voluntarily collected the amount, which will be deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

According to the prison administration, the inmates set aside part of the money they receive for personal expenses to support fellow citizens affected by the disaster.

Naubasta Prison Acting Chief Gyan Bahadur Oli said the inmates expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the flood and voluntarily came forward to help those affected.

Prior to collecting the funds, the inmates also held a condolence assembly, paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, he said.
